Foods That Shouldn’t Be Fed To Cats

The list shows some common food items that should not be fed to cats intentionally or unintentionally.

Some foods which are edible for humans can be edible for dogs.   But these same foods can pose hazards for cats.  Cats have a different metabolism. 

Some of the foods may cause mild digestive upsets, others can cause severe illness and possible death.

Avocados
Bacon
Bones from Fish, Poultry, or Other Meat
Chives
Chocolate, Coffee, Tea and other Caffeine
Citrus Oil Extracts
Dog Food (Can Cause Malnutrition and Heart Disease if Fed Repeatedly)
Fat Trimmings
Garlic (Raw, Cooked, or Powder)
Grapes
Raisins
Human Vitamin Supplements Containing Iron
Large Amounts of Liver
Macadamia Nuts
Milk and Other Dairy Products**
Mushrooms
Onions (Raw, Cooked, or Powder)
Persimmons
Pork
Potato (Raw & Stems)
Raw Eggs
Raw Fish
Rhubarb
Salt
Shallots
Sugary Foods
Table Scraps
Tomato (Green)
Tomato (Leaves & Stems)
Yeast Dough

** Vets will recommend small amounts of yogurt with active bacterial culture to help cats with diarrhea.   

It is not recommended to give milk because it can cause the pH of the urine to go up and predispose them to getting bladder stones.
